On most college campuses, Thursday nights can tend to be a bit of a drag, and at Transy, that’s no different! One Thursday, the lights were turned down and the speakers were turned up as some of Kentucky’s finest Drag Queens (and Kings) took the stage for “An Evening of Royal Drag”. Sponsored by TU SAGE, the event was open to all Transy community members, and the turn out was great! Faculty, staff, and students were invited to come out as these ladies put on an unforgettable show!
The show, featuring performers and judges from the Imperial Court of Kentucky (ICK), showcased some of the state’s finest talent and included routines to songs such as “Don’t Rain on My Parade”, “Dark Horse”, and much more! Additionally, there were two incredible performances by two of Transy’s very own–Richard Churchman and Ryla Luttrell! Audience members had fun as they sang, cheered, and clapped along with the performers; however, the night wasn’t solely about the fabulous entertainment. Have a look at a few photos from the event below!
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity, the Imperial Court of Kentucky collects donations for a variety of wonderful organizations. Donations to performers of the ICK go to assist a waide variety of organizations including Moveable Feast, AVOL, Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Since June, the ICK has raised over $41,000 (one dollar at a time)! Within the short span of two hours, the Transy community was able to contribute over $300 in donations.
While wonderful in its own right, the show played a much larger role as it is a part of Transylvania University’s 2014 Gender Week–which features similar events such as the “The Vagina Monologues” which will be performed on March 28th and March 29th at 9 PM. Tickets for each of the performances cost $4 and which will go towards the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center.
