This week, I attended one of the most amazing ideas to ever come out of Transylvania University. Which is saying something. Because people here are brilliant.
Anyways, this week was the first ever Cupcake Wars, a philanthropy event hosted by Phi Mu, one of the sororities on campus. Any team of 1-3 people could sign up to bake cupcakes. And anyone else just had to pay $3 to walk around the Campus Center gym and take as many cupcakes as wanted. All the money raised will go to the Kentucky Children’s Hospital.
It was wonderful!
And every table cut some cupcakes into fourths so that you could sample everything before going back to get full cupcakes of your favorite flavors. Smart thinking, right?
There were all kinds of flavors there. Pink lemonade, mint chocolate chip, Butterbeer, maple pecan, Fruit Loops, chocolate Nutella, apple spice, classic yellow cake, peppermint mocha. Some kind of delicious mix of cookie dough, chocolate and marshmallow made by our Dean of Students, Dr. LoMonaco.
And many, many more.
There were contests for Best Tasting — which was won by the “All That Sugar” team; Best Decorated and Best Overall –both won by the “Ed’s Special Sauce” team (modeled after Goodburger, you know, from Nickelodeon?), who made cupcakes that looked like cheeseburgers!
President Williams even stopped by to taste some cupcakes! (To learn why this is especially exciting, check out the blog from last year I’ve never lived down.)
Cupcake Wars was fantastic. Delicious cupcakes of all kinds. Only $3. And it all went to a great cause. The bakers had fun designing their creations, and the rest of us certainly had fun tasting them all!
And really, what could be better?
