Love Halloween? So does everyone here at Transy!
There are certain events that take place every year during a time known as “Raf Week.” Now, I’m sure that all of you who have been on a tour have heard about Rafinesque. But, for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, I’ll give you the SparkNotes version:
In the early 1800s, Rafinesque taught botany at Transylvania University. Upon his release from the university after arguing with the president, he supposedly placed a curse on the school. After terrifying occurrences many years after his dismissal, such as the burning down of Old Morrison, many people began to believe in his curse. So in the year 2012, when anything bad happens on campus, good ol’ Raf is to blame.
Every year, Transy celebrates Halloween with a week dedicated to Rafinesque. Events to celebrate this year included Ghost Tours by the Transy Theatre Guild, Pumpkin Mania (where nearly 1,000 carved pumpkins are lit up on the steps of Old Morrison), an ImprompTu, a drawing for a chance to stay in Raf’s tomb, a blood drive, and various Greek costume parties.
Basically, everyone at Transy loves getting into the Halloween spirit! Well, if the name fits…
